Tokyo | US President Donald Trump’s surprise move to impose a 50 per cent tariff on copper imports sent shockwaves through global commodities markets and delivered a gut punch to China’s vast copper refining industry.
Confusion still reigns over whether the tariffs will just be applied to cathodes, plates, blocks – known as blisters – and concentrates normally produced at or near mine sites across South America, Canada, Africa and Australia, or on more processed products such as wire, tubes and even scrap metal.
