Investing in gold among plans for big lottery winner in Canada

An Alberta man has already decided what he wants to do after winning a big lottery prize recently.

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation announced Tuesday that Coalhurst resident Alexander Kurylowicz won $1 million playing Lotto 6/49.

He discovered the win when he took a bunch of lottery tickets to a supermarket to check them.

“I collect them for a while and then scan them all at once,” Kurylowicz said in a WCLC news release.

“This day I scanned about 20 tickets.”

And the result from one of those tickets shocked him.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the win,” he said.

“I did get a couple tears coming…. I had the cashier double-check it and she said, ‘Six zeroes!’”

Kurylowicz said he already knows what he is going to do with the money.

“I’m going to invest in gold,” he said.

“It’s an interest of mine.”

The price of gold has gone up significantly in recent months and as of Sept. 10, sits at more than $3,600 US per ounce.

Kurylowicz also plans to do some home renovations and wants to “put in a really nice bathroom.”

He won the prize in the June 25 Lotto 6/49 gold ball draw, when a white ball was pulled and he matched the winning number for the guaranteed $1 million prize.
