German and U.S. authorities have closed a “crypto mixer” allegedly used by criminals on the dark web to launder funds, seizing $42.2 million-worth of Bitcoin in the process. The ChipMixer platform was used to obfuscate the origin and destination of cryptocurrency movements, and may have been used to assist one of the biggest crypto hacks of 2022. It was also used by ransomware groups, and authorities claim it was unlicensed and attractive for criminals.
