With the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average hovering around highest levels on record, the stock market took a breather at the start of Wednesday’s session.
The S&P 500 was up 0.1%. The Dow was down 109 points, or 0.2%, after opening higher. Both finished Tuesday’s sessions at closing highs. The Nasdaq Composite was up 0.1%.
Earlier in the morning, ADP’s National Employment Report said the U.S. added 41,000 private sector jobs in December. That was above economists’ expectations at 25,000, according to FactSet. November’s figure was revised to a decline of 29,000.
