Andy Reid on Chiefs’ offseason plans amid Travis Kelce retirement buzz

Andy Reid weighed in on Travis Kelce’s NFL future amid retirement rumors and shared immediate plans for the offseason. Reid stated (via Chiefs Wire), “You do the self-evaluation stuff and go back through that, and we did it periodically throughout the season. We’ll hit on that, then I jump into the personnel with (General Manager) Brett (Veach). He loads me up on that stuff.”

Furthermore, Reid stated that the Chiefs plan to make complete use of the offseason to reassemble and strategize for the new NFL season.

He explained, “There’s plenty to work on, so we’ll dive in and try to evaluate everything we possibly can and get it right. That’s what we’re going to do. It is what it is here, but what we do is we work on the problems and make sure we fix them.”

Moreover, in a separate interview with Sports Radio, Reid addressed the elephant in the room: Kelce’s impending retirement.

The host asked, “Travis is still deciding, coach. But I was just wondering if you guys had any conversations about a reasonable timetable, one way or the other, to allow you guys to pivot, if he is leaving or worked on a deal, if he does want to continue to play.”

Reid replied, “Yeah, we will get to that, Pete. Right now, we are finishing the season. You got a little bit of time before all that stuff really needs to take place. I’m not trying to avoid your question, but that’s what’s real right now. I know everybody wants the answer right this minute. But we got to go through a lot of variables. We all love Trav, we know that. Trav can still play, I’m not questioning that part or any of it.”

Reiterating further, he said, “I’m not trying to avoid your question, but I just know there’s time. It’s a little bit the same way we looked last year. We have time to figure everything out, so does Trav. It buys everybody a little bit of time.”
