If you didn’t hear, on Sunday, Donald Trump suggested the government may pay a $2,000 tariff “dividend” to all Americans, minus the rich ones.

At 6:25 a.m., the president wrote on Truth Social, “People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS! We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price.”

“401k’s are Highest EVER,” he continued. “We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion.”
“Record Investment in the USA, plants and factories going up all over the place.”
“A dividend of at least $2,000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone,” Trump said.

When asked about this post by a reporter, Trump later doubled down, saying, “We’re going to issue a dividend to, uh, our middle income people and lower income people of about $2,000.”

Immediately, his base was thrilled by the prospect. One supporter wrote, “I say thank you President Trump. For taking heat for ten years, for taking a bullet, and for trying to save our country.”

But not everyone was convinced…
And outside of those reactions lies a third group of people, who nervously await what $2,000 stimulus checks and extended mortgages could suggest about the US economy.
