She’s toppled the champion once before and Jamie Mott believes that Roch ‘N’ Horse can beat Nature Strip again when they clash in next Saturday’s Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning at Flemington.
Mott was in the saddle for the dual G1 winner’s jumpout at Flemington on Friday morning and left the track feeling bullish about her chances in the premier 1000-metre autumn sprint.
“Obviously, her Group 1s are over 1200m but she’s going in nice and fresh and on this morning’s work, I’d be pretty confident, yeah, she can knock him off again,” Mott said.
Mott guided Roch ‘N’ Horse to a surprise win over Nature Strip in the G1 Champions Sprint in the spring and the Mike Moroney-trained mare split Nature Strip and his stablemate September Run in Friday’s 800-metre jumpout down the straight at Flemington.
“She began really good, Nature Strip took up the lead and she travelled really nicely in behind him,” Mott explained.
“I just gave her a little slip of rein from the furlong, she quickened down really nicely and still had plenty left. I couldn’t be more happy with her.”

Mott noted that Roch ‘N’ Horse had made further development since the Spring Carnival.
“I think she’s definitely come on; she’s furnished a little bit more,” he said.
“She’s just a bloody good horse I think, hopefully, that puts her in good stead come next Saturday and we can win another Group 1.”
Sportsbet has Roch ‘N’ Horse at $13 for the Lightning.
