Victoria to invest in nation-first teaching 'excellence' academy

The Andrews government will invest $148 million in a nation-first academy for Victoria’s highest performing teachers under a new program which is set to impact every school across the state.

Acting Premier James Merlino this morning unveiled the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership – which will see leading teachers further trained in mathematics, english, science and the arts.

Under the program, 500 teachers will enrol in a year-long teaching excellence program “to hone their skills in an elite environment”.

“This is genuinely co-sectorial,” Mr Merlino said.

He also revealed the training would take place across seven regional hubs as well as in Melbourne.
